The Monastery At Forest Lake

The Monastery is a Spectacular Mansion which was built 100 years ago as a Gentlemen’s Hunting Lodge on 40 acres just 10 feet from Forest Lake in NE Oklahoma City. At the onset of the Great Depression, The Lodge was purchased by Oil Baron & Oklahoma Governor Robert S. Kerr as his residence. Governor Kerr and his family lived here from 1935 to 1949. Oklahoma City Medical Pioneer Dr. John Colmore purchased the home from Governor Kerr and lived here with his family for 2 decades. After Dr. Colmore passed, his widow sold the mansion to a group of Orthodox Monks for $1, and they operated a Monastery here from 1970 to 1988. After the Monks moved to Nebraska, the house was purchased by Dr. Andrew John who made the castle his home and added another 4,000 square feet. One more owner had possession of the lakefront estate but it was largely abandoned for 10 years when we purchased it and restored the Monastery to it’s original glory. The current Chapel began it’s life as a Speakeasy Parlor and Ballroom. Rugged and wooded similar to far NE Oklahoma, The Monastery is an award winning Couples’ Resort and also the most picturesque Wedding Venue in the OKC Metro.
